So you have finished installing garden pavers in your backyard. What’s the next step?

If you are thinking of buying garden furniture you may have a lot of questions in mind. One might be what sort of material makes for durable and long-lasting garden furniture?

The most available material to consider is cast aluminum. Cast aluminum is naturally rust proof, strong and available in various styles and finishes. Furniture made of cast aluminum is the most popular type for outdoor use.

Another common type of garden furniture material would be the all-weather wicker. This is comparatively a newcomer in the market. Synthetic resin wicker is resistant to water and rot. It neither cracks nor splits and is not susceptible to fade. Durability-wise, the best type is the aluminum frame wrapped all-weather wicker furniture.

Recycled high-density plastic furniture is also another newcomer in the market. Sometimes called poly-resin or poly-furniture, this material is really heavy and will not rot. As technology has evolved so has the styling options and available colors. So well that some of these furnishings can actually look just like real wood.

Teak wood would be the last of the popular garden furniture materials. Teak outdoor furniture is no doubt the oldest. For centuries teak has been used in building ships and construction of outdoor furniture. This isn’t just by accident. Teak furnishings last up to 100 years without any preservatives. This is because it has naturally high oil content. So teak is less susceptible to rot or insect damage.

The market today provides lots of options for outdoor furniture, but be sure to invest in high quality furniture because it will really pay off in the long run. You will end up saving time, money and frustration in the future.

Brick pavers are materials used to make walkways, patios and so many other things. They are well known for their durability. At some point you may think of painting them. By doing so, cleaning would become easier and the paint would provide the bricks with a protective coating. In doing this job, you will need to keep in mind a few things:

1. Clean Well Before Painting
Make sure you get rid of all of the dirt or dust on the surface of the brick pavers to avoid locking them underneath the paint. Not cleaning the bricks also makes it hard for the paint to adhere to them.

2. Plan Ahead
This is important because you want to make sure that the weather will cooperate with you while doing the job. Do not do it if the temperature is below 10 Co. Warm weather is preferable as well as no sign of rain coming your way.

3. Mix With Turpentine
Mix one part turpentine with four parts of paint for your first coating. Since you will use it only on your first coating, make sure to use a separate container for the mixture. By mixing turpentine into your paint, the mixture will adhere to the surface of the bricks much better. You can now go over the first coat with the true coat of paint.

4. Multiple Coats
Before applying the next coats allow plenty of time for the previous coat to dry. You may do two to three coats of paint. It may take around eight hours for the paint to completely dry.

An attractive way to decorate your house would be to use limestone tiles. Though limestone tiles are not limited to houses; they are also commonly used in commercial buildings.

Limestone tiles are very versatile. Limestone tiles come in a wide range of shapes, textures and colours. Common colours include blue grey, cream, beige yellow and many others.

Uses of this natural stone are unlimited. For example it is commonly used for flooring, covering, bathroom and kitchen surfaces. Its versatility comes from its ability to withstand moisture and dirt. If moisture can’t enter, stains and dirt are therefore minimized, making limestone tiles hygienic to use even in wet areas.

The downside of limestone tiles is that they are more susceptible to scratches and stains. This makes regular maintenance a must. Limestone tiles would be a good choice for those who prefer a natural way of styling your house.

Whether you are planning on installing garden paving yourself or hiring a landscape artist, it’s important to have a basic idea on how it is done. Some useful knowledge about preparing your garden for garden pavers has been compiled below.

Firstly, an important thing to keep in mind is that the soil beneath the garden pavers has to be virgin soil. This means that it has to have not been touched. Garden pavers that are installed on a foundation that is not stable will result in an uneven product. If the materials also is not installed properly they might end up moving, which can cause accident in addition to being unsightly.
An example of a touched or disturbed soil is soil that has had fill added to it. You wouldn’t want to lay your pavers or patio on this sort of decomposing soil, would you?

However, there are ways to work with disturbed soil. Firstly, load the soil, about six inches deep. This presses the soil like it hasn’t been disturbed. Next is to take away the disturbed soil and replace it with crushed stone. The depth of this particular modification in the soil must be six to eight inches deep. Then add crushed stones or aggregate about five-inch thick. Then place a layer of sand on the topmost part of those stones.

The last step is to lay the pavers. Make sure to consider the slope of the pavers so that the direction where the water will drain is not towards the house where it will cause more problems. This can be followed by adding polymeric sand to the joints which will harden to avoid problems with weeds.

Concrete pavers are made up of mixtures of different construction material such as cement, water, sand and gravel, etc. They are condensed and hardened to produce a solid paver. This type of paver is convenient to use to pave your garden. Normally this type of paving material requires the use of moulds. This is to ensure a clean, easy and accurate paving product.

Concrete pavers come in many patterns and colors. Its finishing can be made to look however you want it. They can even be designed to look like stones to produce a more natural look which is commonly seen in patio designs. This finishing is also called as tumbled pavers.

Sandstone is a sedimentary rock made up of sand sized minerals. Its colour can range commonly includes tan, brown, yellow, red, gray and white. It’s composed mostly of quartz and feldspar particles which are usually between 1/16 millimeter and 2 mm in size. There are three main types of sandstones, arkosic, quartzose and argillaceous. Sandstones have one common element in them, the quartzite. Depending on what other components make up them, one type of sandstone has different characteristics from other types.

Sandstone pavers have been popular for thousands of years in making buildings. Its range of colours and textures has made it extremely popular in designing houses and landscapes. Being soft and regular in size it is also easy to use. Sandstone characteristics make it naturally slip resistant making it a good choice for making surfaces around a swimming pool or other places that needs a safe surface to walk on.
